A Rainy & Windy Last Monday
Even though June 21, 2010, was a rainy and extremely windy Monday in Zagreb, we set out to conquer the town. My Mama, Tata, i Ujna Lili strolled into Gradska Kavana a fancy cafe on the main square, Trg Bana Josipa Jelacica for coffee and their fresh, delicious strudl od visnja!
After grocery shopping at Dolac and underground, we did some last minute gift shopping. I will never forget the ferocious wind that was whipping in between the buildings downtown.
As we walked out onto the street from the market below Dolac, a rather old lady attempting to commandeer her umbrella had it flipped out by the wind to which she promptly began cursing like sailor. HILARIOUS! When she noticed us, she quickly apologized & began commenting on the now thoroughly cursed wind.
Starving, we ducked into Nocturno for lunch. They have AMAZING pizzas & their portions are gigantic; this is definitely a place where you can split. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, fried cheese, & 3 pizzas, one of which was called picante - glive (mushrooms), arugala, ricola.
Not only were our stomachs having a wonderful time, but Portugal was too in their World Cup massacre of North Korea, 7:0 (match highlights).
Before returning home, we indulged in our favorite ice cream shop Slastičarna Orijent. Phenomenal sladoled (ice cream)!
Bonus! My dad’s ura (wrist watch) broke the day before at the little strap that holds the excess part of the watch together. We walked into this tiny URAR (clock repair shop) on Maksimirska street & this kind gentleman quickly fixed it for FREE. Look at all those spares!
