Thursday night at Ecclesia Houston, worship leaders Matt & Cameron Hammon debriefed us on their recent trip to two of Europe’s poorest countries, Hungary and Moldova. I was encouraged by the several tables full of people who were interested in God’s work in Eastern Europe. Matt & Cameron shared pictures & stories from their mission work (their blog) and ways that God is moving & the gospel being proclaimed in Budapest, Hungary through YWAM & other groups.
Additionally, they presented on their most recent trip to several orphanages in the poor country of Moldova. Around 80% of the human trafficking of women & young girls comes from Moldova. Pray!!! Sadly, the government is corrupt, communism still has a lingering stronghold on its people, the orphanages are sites of sexual abuse, & smugglers profile kids in the orphanages to be sold later. The Hammon’s said that there is HOPE. That hope comes from our Lord & the work being done through prevention. Several local churches are spreading the gospel to these orphanages & sharing with kids, especially women, about how they have a purpose in life & that they are loved by God & created in His image. Between the ages of 15-18, the orphans in Moldova are dismissed from the orphanage and must find a way to live & sustain themselves until age 18 when they can then attend the free government provided university. It is within this age range, the Hammon’s explained, that human trafficking rings prey on people through kidnappings, trickery, and even willing destitute desperation. Pray!!! Thankfully there are a handful of Christian “Transition Homes” to provide love, shelter, & protection during these 3 to 4 years.
What can we do?
Matt & Cameron Hammon said that they would like to (1.) Gather a small team of excited & fun people to go to Moldova this summer and lead a church camp for the orphans and (2.) Support several orphans in a “Transition Home” for $1,000 per orphan (something that maybe a small group could try to raise) and (3.) PRAY!!!
BONUS: My dear friend Krystle Hosmer is actually in Budapest teaching with YWAM right now! Check out her blog, please pray for her, & support her if possible.
I have a heart for Eastern European missions namely for my people in Croatia (Hrvatska) who need to hear the good news! Volim vas!
